First of all- awesome sandwiches ; we had the Cuban and the chicken Caesar wrap. And deeeelish NE Chowder. Also the place is cute and CLEAN. Next... I thought my son had left a beloved sweatshirt there accidentally. I called several days later, spoke with Eric and they found it! He is going to ship it back to me in NJ! Amazing customer service! Make sure you hit this place up the next time you are in PVD!
Visited at approx. 1:30 PM on a weekday with a party of 3. Small crowd inside, the place was well-staffed at the counter and in the kitchen. Order = three sandwiches and three drinks. Huge menu board with all sorts of selections. All three sandwiches were stuffed full of toppings, very flavorful, the bread was great. Served in plastic baskets with paper liners. Specialty sodas available in the fridge along with the 'regular' selections of sodas, teas and waters. Seating was low tops and high tops. Location is easily wheelchair accessible. Right off a downtown intersection and easy to walk to from the convention center and surrounding downtown areas. No sidewalk seating. Great air conditioning inside :)
Ocean Stare offers one of the better sandwiches I have had in Providence. Nice combination of ingredients slightly toasted and you are in sandwich nirvana. Service is quick even with a line. There is a casual almost beach like ambiance and there is seating. This is a good go to place if you simply want a decent sandwich.
Literally some of the best sandwiches you'll ever have in your life! This place is a must try. The service is always outstanding & the food is out of this world. If you're short on time, I'd recommend calling your order in because they do get quite busy around lunch time.
Ocean State Sandwich is my fourth stop on the 9th Annual #BestSandwichRI showdown. I've been here once before as well. The first time I got a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Cuban sandwich which has Applewood Smoked Ham, Thin Sliced Mustard Crusted Pork Loin, Swiss Cheese, Sliced Pickles pressed on a Buono's Bakery Sub Roll. It was yummy so I was very excited to see Ocean State Sandwich as part of the 9th Annual #BestSandwichRI showdown. Ocean State Sandwich is very spacious and has many tables. When you walk in, you'll see a fridge of Yacht club sodas and other beverages and chips on the right and high top tables on the left, the menu on a blackboard is straight ahead. There is also another room with more tables. The RI Food Fights included any option on the menu with a wave next to it. I chose the Apple Valley Turkey sandwich and my husband chose the Ultimate Grinder sandwich. The Apple Valley Turkey sandwich has House Roasted Turkey, Bacon, Sliced Apple, Red Onion, Cheddar, and Sun-Dried Tomato Mayo on Toasted Whole Wheat. It was smaller than the Ultimate Grinder sandwich that had Hot Capicola, Soppressata, Genoa Salami, Sharp Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Oil & Vinegar and House Made Sun-Dried Tomato/Banana Pepper Relish on a Buono's Bakery Sub Roll, but it was very good. Both sandwiches are very tasty. Everything in the Apple Valley Turkey sandwich was delicious. There was a good portion of House Roasted Turkey. The crunchiness and different texture of the Bacon, Sliced Apple, Red Onion, Cheddar, House Roasted Turkey and Sun-Dried Tomato Mayo was excellent. The Ultimate Grinder has a little kick to it. We also had a Granny Squibb Iced Tea to go with our sandwiches. Staff are friendly and were very helpful with their recommendations. They bought our order to the table. It wasn't too busy when we arrived around 11:30am, but the line started to form when we left. I can't wait to come back to Ocean State Sandwich. The sandwiches are affordable and worth the price.
So we were visiting this wonderful little sub shop through our Rhode Island food fight passport. Omg , like the absolute best Italian sandwich I've ever had outside of the north end of Boston. It was so chalk full of meats and cheese and had the sharp sharp provolone. We absolutely love that. It just had a thin slice of lettuce and tomato, which is perfect because otherwise it would've been just too much It also comes with like a special tomato relish but I asked if it was spicy and she said a little bit so I said please put it on the side so we could try it separately. Served on a nice hoagie roll super soft. The staff were very friendly and helpful pointing out the different types of sandwiches and what the specialties of the house works etc. they said pick any sandwich that has a wave next to it. Well, that didn't narrow down the choice as much because they had several that had the wave next to it and each one was even more delicious sounding than the one before. It was really hard to make a choice, but they said the number one seller was the Italian. So that's what I got. We also got two extra cookies of gluten-free snickerdoodle and a local maple bacon sugar cookie. My daughter who cut the snickerdoodle said it was awesome. The maple bacon was just as good. Can't wait to go back there and try something else. One of the best experience I've had so far.
I have been coming here for years and can't believe I haven't written a review for Ocean State Sandwich yet, it's probably because I always take my order to go and haven't taken any stellar pictures of my food. I have never had a bad sandwich from Ocean State Sandwich and have tried just about every one of them. They are all delicious and well worth the price. We have ordered individual sandwiches to take home and I've ordered catering for work which is very easy because you can do everything online. Additionally, they offer homemade soups and cookies too which are fabulous. The folks who work there are so nice as well as friendly and accommodating. The only downside is the location (no parking) and the hours (they close at 3pm) neither of which are convenient when you live outside of the city and need to drive there.
One of the best sandwich shops in the area. I had the 365 Thanksgiving with fresh turkey and the clerks were super fast in serving our food. Definitely worth the trip !!!!
Loved the sandwich I got here! My first time here and I came for RI Food Fights sandwich month and ordered the Apple Valley Turkey ($11) after seeing how popular it was online. They stuffed it very well with turkey which was fresh and sliced thicker so it wasn't dry. They gave a generous amount of bacon too, compared to many places who skimp on it. The bread they used was on point. Thin slices of whole wheat compliments the sandwich perfectly. A bulky roll would be too much bread. Their sun dried tomato mayo was so good, I've never had this mayo before. And I loved that they spread it on the top and bottom slices of bread! Not many places do this, props to them. It wasn't a huge sandwich, but still great value. The staff was funny and inviting and they have plenty of great sandwiches to choose from. I'll be back for sure.
Ocean State Sandwich was a pleasant surprise. My hotel had a Panera down the hill, what fun is that? I'd like to have a sandwich prepped by locals and have a good chowder so I walked a little further to OSS. Once I opened the door I was faced with a line?! It moved quickly so not too much of a big deal. I had plans to grab a Snapple Iced Tea but in the cold case, I saw their local tea brand. I finally reach the window and ask for a half sandwich / soup combination. I'd like chowder please. Sir, we only make our chowder on Friday. Bummer. I nix the soup and order their specialty sandwich, the Hot Thanksgiving 365 Sandwich. This truly Thanksgiving, freshly carved Turkey with stuffing and gravy? I wanted to order one for dinner! Very very good. If you're in Providence, find Ocean State Sandwich!
